"summary": "A two-step annealing process put large crystalline rubrene domains into an OLED and sharply increased current density.",
"body_text": "University of Toyama researchers deposited a 50-nanometer rubrene layer, seeded crystals with one heating step and grew them after the remaining layers were added. The resulting non-epitaxial crystalline OLEDs showed current densities up to 1,000 times those of amorphous-rubrene controls, a 1.33-volt turn-on and a narrower emission peak. The Synthetic Metals study is a device demonstration under laboratory conditions; it does not yet establish commercial efficiency, lifetime or scalable display manufacturing.",
