The Circuit Generator Learns to Offer Trade-offs
Multi-objective reinforcement learning rewards a set of RTL designs for expanding the power, performance and area frontier.
Summary
Multi-objective reinforcement learning rewards a set of RTL designs for expanding the power, performance and area frontier.
A single scalar reward can hide useful hardware-design alternatives. This work trains an LLM-based RTL generator to improve the quality and diversity of the full candidate set, using hypervolume contribution as reward. On RTLLM v2, the authors report relative hypervolume gains of 13.3 percentage points over a no-PPA-optimization baseline and 14.4 points over a single-objective method. The benchmark measures generated circuit candidates; it does not replace synthesis and verification for a real chip.
